Daniel 2: 46 & 47

Verse 47, "The king answered unto Daniel, and said, ‘Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.’" A great king has realised this. Is he really meaning it? He saw in Daniel and extraordinary power to understand dreams and to recover the forgotten dream. Seeing his life and his success in distinguishing himself in his academic life, the king was convinced of the above truth. The young men of Babylon were not like Daniel. There is no religion in this world except for Christianity which can give us an idea of a holy God. Even in the highest circles there is no holy life. It is a great pity to see the leaders unable to lead young people to a holy life. If there is weakness in you in sex-matters it will make you go wrong in many things. In this world we do not have leaders like Nebuchadnezzar who acknowledged the truth. We cannot say that the really big men in this world did not know the truth about Christ. They knew it and hid it. Their fear was the people might follow Christ. Thus they have greatly harmed the land. People say that men of responsibility are needed for positions of responsibility today. But we have people who seek their own importance and hide the truth. Such men are the greatest enemies of our countries. They may be men of learning but they are not spiritual men.

Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged the truth, but he was not converted. He worshipped Daniel but did not worship Daniel’s God. He commanded that all men should worship the God of Daniel but he himself did not worship Him. Daniel 3:1, "Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon." Here he is creating a god. Many worship Jesus like this with their lips but they will not give their hearts.

In spite of God’s revelation concerning the future, Nebuchadnezzar makes another god. You may say you believe in Jesus but you can be creating gods. Daniel 4:30, "The king spake, and said, ‘Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?’" Here in these words the true man is clearly seen. Pride is the reason why a man will not come to Christ. He feels he is greater than God Himself. Nebuchadnezzar felt he built great Babylon by the greatness of his majesty. Man’s pride does not humble itself! "I am a sinner he says but not such a great sinner." You must repent for your pride. You must repent for the sins of your parents. Then they will turn to God. Nebuchadnezzar declared this God was a God of gods but made a god of himself and asked all men to worship it. He commanded that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cast into the fire because they would not worship the god he created. This is wicked hypocrisy. There is no brokenness to say, "I am a sinner absolutely." God made him dwell with the beasts of the field. That was the fruit of his pride. His son was lost. God wrote His judgment against him. You are congratulating yourself that you are a good Christian. Be careful! The result of such a congratulation which is not of God will lead your family to destruction. Humble yourself. The future sufferings of your family will be due to your false religion.
